What are you upto this weekend? Have you been to see the Dali exhibition yet? I tried to see it during Art after Dark on a Wednesday night but the lines were so long I gave it a miss. Instead I went back during the afternoon this week when there was alot more room.

And the Bracks exhibition at NGV Australia finishes soon I am off there on Sunday to see this one.

A Day in Pompeii at the Melbourne Museum is another exhibition I would like to see. I am lucky enough to have been to Pompeii so hope I wont be disappointed.

My Creative Space

I feel like one of those people you see who can only have a garden in pots or a small balcony garden. That's how my crafting is at the moment, not much space and everything in tubs to be put away each day. I would much prefer to keep stuff out and pick it up when I want but I can't so I am not doing too much at the moment.

So this week it's my kitchen table for felting. Using a small sheet of plastic, bubble wrap to make the long bugle bead and a sauce bottle to hold soapy water. This is the merino wool I bought last week.

  

I am just learning the felting technique to see if I like it with a small jewellery project. I have made one large bugle bead that I will cut up for one project and then mid size balls for another. Its great for a small craft area.

The Dressmaker

This title caught my attention naturally. An Australian author from Brunswick and I did enjoy this black fiction....it's her first novel and really well written about a young woman who comes back home to country Victoria having become a dressmaker and working in Paris.

Craft and Quilt Fair

I went along to the Craft and Quilt Fair at the  Exhibition Buildings at Southbank

 

I felt completely overwhelmed, too many people and too much for me to look at. I like to have projects in mind when I go shopping I am not one to purchase for my stash and as I am really restricted in space at the moment I cant get carried away. I really want to make a babies quilt and was keen to buy the fabric. But I think I am better off going to Amitie and getting the service and variety of fabrics that I want.

However, one area of craft I really do want to try is felting and I went along to another workshop where Annie was making beads from felt.......so it combines my love of jewellery with craft. She showed us how to make round and bugle beads so I am thinking I dont need too much space to make this.

 

 

So to start off I have bought this delicious red and and raspberry hand dyed wool

 

Plus some neutral wool and silk hankies for texture and grey ribbon for threading

I am looking forward to trying something different. Are you trying anything new?

Burda Sewing Club

Last night I went along to the Burda Sewing Club held at Tessuti. Not knowing what to expect, I did not take my sewing machine, just some show and tell and hand sewing.

So it was all about swapping. Swapping tips, ideas, information.......fabric and patterns. A great group of like minded women interested in sewing, fashion and textiles.

My Creative Space

When I need to craft I really have to find any space I can for the task in hand. The most difficult is when I need to cut out fabric. So this week it's my kitchen countertop. You can see Curlypops swap pot holder in the background.

I am cutting out some silk for another classic shirt using New Look 6598

 

I am taking it along to the Burda Sewing Club tonight being held at Tessuti and is anyone going to the  Craft and Quilt Fair? I will be there tomorrow if anyone wants a coffee and a chat.

Put Victoria on Your Table

I love food, cooking it and eating it and The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival has launched a programme over winter called Put Victoria on Your Table to promote local ingredients, wine and restaurants

  

There are lots of events but I particularly like Winter Restaurant Express starting July 26th where you can lunch at great restaurants for $35.
