Making Magnetised Buttons

I have longed to have a go at making covered magnetised buttons. I bought these buttons from GJ's in Carlton and they are perfect because using pliers I could just pull out the inner part that is not needed. Magnets were from Bunnings and just glued on the back.

So now I have a whole set ready to use in different sizes

Japanese fabric from my stash with a predominantly red influence. I am planning to make red my accent colour in my new studio

Clover Goodies

I love Clover products and couldn't resist buying this cutie........its a charco chalk pen with a tiny wheel at the pointy end making for very fine lines and its refillable. I think I might just have to get the other colours. I often find with pencils the leads break when you sharpen them and they never stay sharp to give that fine line. So this is perfect.

 

and I love my small rotary cutter - 28mm. I never use scissors for cutting fabric now and this small cutter is great for curved cutting around armholes and necklines. Rotary cutters are also great when cutting stretch fabrics as you are cutting on the flat.

 

Lastly I love using my bias binding maker, it comes in especially handy when I am making quilt binding.

Rebecca Taylor's Summer Dress

Finally finished. Love the detailing at the front and the sleeves. I squared off the hemline.

 

 

I am going to make this again. the only change I would make is that I find the neckline a touch low so I need to sew that up a little. I am also going to make the next one longer.

I am loving this pattern from Vogue designed by Rebecca Taylor. The detailing is wonderful. I have learnt to make my own piping.

 

 

The facings are so well done I feel I could wear it inside out

 

Loving the way the voile sews up too.

With my dress making in mind I just had to succumb to have my own dress form. I have purchased an 8 part form so that I can personalise all the measurements. it will make doing the hem so much easier too.

Craftexpo

I am strolling the Craftexpo on at The Exhibition Buildings this weekend. Very traditional crafts are on display but I did manage to buy this Christmas Fairy kit from AK Traditions. They have a store in Malvern Road Hawsburn. I was disappointed not to find any felting supplies.
The Finders Keepers Market is on this weekend also at Shed 4 in The Docklands.

Warm Duck and Sweet Potatoe Salad

As the days are slowly getting warmer I have been rifling through my cookbooks looking for salad recipes I have never tried. This was delicious. I bought some cooked duck from the market, added cubed sweet potatoe, tatsoi and coriander leaves and then tossed it in a tamarind and fresh Ginger dressing.
