I love Christmas. This would have been a very special day in 1964. A trip to "Town".... up early to catch the country train down to Melbourne and into Myers to see Father Xmas and the windows. We would have lunch at the Coles cafeteria and some Christmas shopping.

When I was younger I did Calisthenics with my younger sister at the local church hall. My mother made all our costumes...when I look back she did a fantastic job. This particular costume needed a cottonwool wig that was tacked onto an onion bag. My mother tells us this story when she had a blonde moment! She asked what size tacks she would need and there she was thinking how she was going to use a hammer and "tack" the cottonwool onto the onion bag! What was she thinking. It brings a smile to my face everytime I retell this story.

If you have been a reader of this blog you will know that I have started scrapbooking all my old photos and I know many of you have commented that you want to know more about the stories behind them. A little bit about who I am and my background.
Well today I am sharing some more with you. This is me as a very young girl in the backyard on "cracker night" or Guy Fawkes night as its fomal name. We lived in Wonthaggi in Gippsland until I was 8 until we came to live in Carnegie. I always preferred Sparklers and Catherine Wheels to those loud crackers and perhaps thats where my love of Bling has come from. Of course today fireworks are banned but I have some fond memories of those times. In fact I was able to host my own Guy Fawkes night in London when we lived there. We even went to the Battersea Park Guy Fawkes night fireworks one year.
I still love sparklers and fireworks and enjoy the New Years Eve spectacular and even at Moomba I had 3 nights of fireworks. Of course the opening of the Commonwealth Games has been the most spectacular event I have ever seen. What's yours?

Barbie turns 50 this week and she has a special place in my heart.
I was a product manager on Barbie along time ago and started the first Barbie Fan Club in Australia. This is me at Toyfair in Sydney. I think it's 1982!! I remember Day to Night Barbie, her townhouse, her pink corvette and lots of other stuff.
As part of the celebrations New York fashion week hosted a runway of famous designers dressing Barbie

One of my plans for this year was to learn new skills around paper and cards
So I have started off with this scapbooking class at Made with Love and I loved it. New jargon to learn, new tools to buy, oh and my goodness I can see another stash coming....so many beautiful pattern papers to choose.
We learnt how to put a template together
and I love playing around with the embellishments.......it's really a mixed media collage
and one of my new tools...I am surprised it's not branded Clover as it comes from Japan.....is glue tape in this handy dispenser.
I can see this is the beginning of a new love.
